While only several games into his sophomore high school season, Race Kowalczyk
has been able to get himself on some college radars. After having no scholarship
offers as he entered the summer, the 6’6” forward has been able to pick up a
couple of them for himself.
Back in July, Toledo became the first program to offer Kowalczyk. Then in
November, UC-Irvine moved his offer list up to two. In addition to the pair of offers,
he has generated some interest from some schools in both the Horizon and MAC
conferences.
In his sophomore season, Kowalczyk has been a big reason why St. John’s Jesuit
(OH) sits at a 5-1 record. The forward has played a big role in his team’s success
while averaging 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. “My main focus is
helping our team win games, whatever it takes” he said about goals for the rest of
the season. “I also want to continue to develop as a scorer and physically, as well as
challenge myself to get more offensive rebounds and blocks.”
“I’m a wing, stretch four that wants to win games first,” Kowalczyk said first to
describe his own game. “I’m an elite shooter & also I love to post up and attack
mismatches. Defensively I’m a good post defender and improving rim protector.”
Kowalczyk and St. John’s Jesuit will get started today in the prestigious Proviso West
Holiday Tournament in Illinois where they will be competing in for the rest of the
week.
